School Upgrades

What is the issue in Arunachal Pradesh?

In Arunachal Pradesh, the hilly terrain presents significant challenges, leading to a lack of proper infrastructure and government schools in areas inhabited by the Chakma & Hajong community. Traditionally sustaining themselves as a scheduled tribe through hunting, the community now values formal education for their children's future. Recognizing this need, the community has donated panchayat land, approved by the government, to construct educational structures. These structures, currently temporary bamboo shacks, are insufficient to withstand weather changes and often leak after light rain. To address these challenges, plans are underway to upgrade 9 schools in the area. This initiative includes laying concrete floors, installing tin roofs, applying a fresh coat of paint, and constructing block bathrooms with three toilets, an independent sewage tank, and a rainwater tank. The community, contributing incrementally with a nominal fee, has been building these bamboo classrooms over time.

What is the issue in Refugee Camps:

Refugee camps often lack adequate infrastructure and facilities, including proper educational buildings, for children's schooling. This deficiency limits access to quality education and hinders the development of young learners in these communities. Recognizing the importance of education, efforts are being made to improve learning environments within the camps.

What is the proposal:

In response to this need, plans have been initiated to upgrade educational facilities in several refugee camps and schools within Arunachal Pradesh. These upgrades include constructing shelters where children can gather for classes. The aim is to provide a conducive learning space that promotes educational growth and development despite the challenging circumstances of living in refugee camps.

The community and supporting organizations are committed to enhancing these facilities to ensure that refugee children have access to a quality education. By creating suitable learning environments, this initiative aims to empower children in refugee camps, nurturing their potential and providing opportunities for a better future.
