Cycle to School

What is the issue?

Refugee children often face long and hazardous commutes to reach their schools, with some walking upwards of 15 kilometers each day. This is especially challenging for those in refugee camps located in the desert heat of Rajasthan. These arduous journeys discourage school attendance and jeopardize the safety and well-being of the children, limiting their access to education and hindering their academic progress and personal development.

What the Initiative Proposes:

The Cycle to School Program is an annual initiative carried out before the start of the academic year. It provides bicycles to children in refugee camps who are older than 12 years of age, as they are more mature and have a sense of responsibility. This initiative significantly reduces their travel times and enhances their safety. By facilitating easier and safer commutes, the program ensures that these children can attend school regularly and focus on their education, paving the way for a brighter future.
